CAC Registration
CAC Registration on AKO is often as simple as logging in. AKO can validate your identity and register your CAC to your account during the log-in process so just insert your CAC into your reader, browse to the portal, and try to sign in with your CAC and PIN. If you successfully log in then your CAC becomes registered to your account automatically.
CAC Registration Checklist

ActivClient*
Have an existing AKO/DKO account
Know your access credentials; PIN and Username/Password
*ActivClient is only required for Firefox users and users of previous Windows versions
Manual Registration
Some users might encounter an issue with the automatic CAC registration process and will need to complete the CAC registration wizard to successfully register their CAC to their account.
- Browse to the portal; https://www.us.army.mil/
- Log in to AKO/DKO using your Username & Password
- Open the My Account menu
- Select CAC/Certificate Registration
- Click Register
- Enter Your Password
- Print the confirmation screen as desired
ActivClient Software
If you are attempting to register your CAC from a personal computer you might need the ActivClient software for your CAC certificates to be seen by AKO. For information about ActivClient please see WHAT SOFTWARE DO I NEED TO USE MY CAC?.
Certificate Availability
The certificates on your CAC must be made available to windows before you will be able to use them. If you have installed the ActivClient software and still do not see the certificates in your list please see HOW TO MAKE YOUR CAC CERTIFICATES AVAILABLE for information on how to make your certificates available to windows.
403 Access Forbidden
If you get this error during CAC registration you will need to clear your temporary internet files, close all open browser windows, and then try again. For more information on 403 Access Forbidden errors please see ERROR: “403: ACCESS FORBIDDEN”.
