OWA (Outlook Web App) with your CAC

Please note when logging in to OWA (Outlook Web App) with your CAC, you will need to select your Email certificate. If the incorrect certificate is selected, you will receive the Ërror 500 Internal Server Error”or “Page Cannot be displayed.”

You will also want to ensure that you are entering the OWA address manually https://web.mail.mil and using Internet Explorer for your browser.

If you are on a government computer, please contact your local IT for assistance with accessing OWA. If you are on a personal computer, please follow the steps below.

As a initial troubleshooting step, please try clearing your browser cache and clearing the SSL State. The link below provides detailed instructions on clearing the cache in your web browser.

Clear SSL State:

  • Open Internet Explorer
  • Click on ‘Tools’.
  • Click on Ínternet Options’.
  • Click on the Content Tab.
  • Click the CLEAR SSL state button, and click OK from the ‘The SSL cache was successfully cleared’ window.

After you have cleared your browser cache, you will need to restart your web browser before attempting to access the OWA.

If this does not resolve your issue, please try the steps below.

  1. Open Internet Explorer, Click Tools, Then Internet Options
  2. Select the Security Tab, then click the Sites button.
  3. In the text field type in https://*.mail.mil then press OK

After you have complete the steps above, please restart your browser.

If you are still unable to login to the EE portal, please try running the Cross-Cert removal tool. Please note this step requires administrator rights, if you do not have permissions to do so, please contact your local IT for assistance.

After you have downloaded the remover tool, you will need to copy with executable to your desktop.
Next you will need to right click on the removal tool icon, then click ‘Run As Administrator”, you should see a black screen pop up and scroll through quickly.

This tool fixes any certificate chaining issues that may cause problems when accessing government sites.

    I’m including my Hotmail address since I cannot get into Army OWA.

    I can log in fine. However, I am seeing nothing but a white screen with a blue vertical line. I’ve done all the steps above. It worked fine until a week ago.
