The Department of Defense requires an information sharing environment that supports secure access to disparate, cross-service capabilities and information as an enterprise collaborative environment for warfighting, business, and intelligence users.
The focus of Defense Knowledge Online (DKO) is the requirement for a DoD-wide collaborative enterprise. The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Net-Centric Enterprise Services (NCES) Program Management Office is responsible for providing a suite of core enterprise services (CES) that improves the ability to collaborate and discover/subscribe to existing information sources. NCES is required to facilitate access to these capabilities and provide them from a web browser or through existing Command/Service/Agency (C/S/A) Portals.
A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was established between DISA, the Army CIO/G-6, and supporting Program Executive Offices (PEO). The MOA defines roles and responsibilities and supports a “managed services” Service Level Agreement (SLA). DKO will provide access to NCES user facing capabilities and will provide total life cycle management support and maintain Information Assurance (IA) and physical security accreditation on the SIPRNet and the NIPRNET.
DKO will provide a single point of entry for all authorized users, including DoD, interagency, intergovernmental, and multinational personnel, plus contractor support and sponsored guests when required.
AKO is the platform that DKO is using. So, AKO is undergoing a transformation to support all DoD users. AKO will remain, but AKO will now include links and tools as part of DKO.
