AKO scans all incoming email for viruses with an industry-standard virus detection product. AKO adheres to the virus protection requirements outlined in Sections 3-3 and 4-5 of AR 25-2 (https://armypubs.us.army.mil/epubs/pdf/r25_2.pdf).
When AKO detects a virus in a message, AKO removes the virus and then delivers the message. The virus is replaced with an alert that tells to the user that a virus was found and removed. Even with these precautions, however, some viruses inevitably enter the AKO email system. AKO reports suspicious activity in the AKO email system – including virus outbreaks – to the Army Network Operations Center and Computer Emergency Response Team.
