How do I clear my Temporary Internet Files (cache)?

If you are having an issue with the AKO/DKO portal and you need to clear your Internet browser cache, make sure you are using Internet Explorer 6 or above. If the issue persists after following the instructions below, reboot the computer system and try again.  You should also ensure that you are not accessing the AKO/DKO Portal through a shortcut or favorite – please type the address into the browser to access the site (www.us.army.mil).

Internet Explorer 6 (IE6)

If you are using Internet Explorer 6:

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click on ‘Tools’.
  3. Click on ‘Internet Options’.
  4. Click on ‘Delete Cookies’
  5. Click on ‘Delete Files’. Note: you may get a prompt to “Delete all offline content?” It is up to you but it is strongly suggested that you do so.
  6. Close all Internet Explorer browser windows.
  7. Re-open a new Internet Explorer window and attempt the action you were trying to do before.

Internet Explorer 7 (IE7)

If you are using Internet Explorer 7:

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click on ‘Tools’.
  3. Click on ‘Internet Options’.
  4. Click on ‘Delete’ located within the “Browsing history” section.
  5. Click on ‘Delete Files…’
  6. Click on ‘Delete Cookies…’
  7. Click on ‘Delete history…’
  8. Optional: Click on ‘Delete Form Data…’
  9. Optional: Click on ‘Delete passwords…’
  10. Close all your Internet Explorer browser windows.
  11. Re-open a new Internet Explorer window and attempt the action you were trying to do before.

Internet Explorer 8 (IE8)

If you are using Internet Explorer 8:

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click on ‘Tools’.
  3. Click on ‘Internet Options’.
  4. Click on ‘Delete’ located within the “Browsing history” section.
  5. Check the box next to ‘Temporary Internet files’
  6. Check the box next to ‘Cookies’
  7. Check the box next to ‘History’
  8. If AKO is a favorite, un-check ‘Preserve Favorites Website Data’
  9. Optional: Check the box next to’Form data’
  10. Optional: Check the box next to ‘Passwords’
  11. Click the ‘Delete’ button
  12. Close all your Internet Explorer browser windows.
  13. Re-open a new Internet Explorer window and attempt the action you were trying to do before.

Internet Explorer 9 (IE9)

If you are using Internet Explorer 9:

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click on ‘Tools’.
  3. Click on ‘Safety’.
  4. Click on ‘Delete browsing history’.
  5. Check the box next to ‘Temporary Internet files’
  6. Check the box next to ‘Cookies’
  7. Check the box next to ‘History’
  8. If AKO is a favorite, un-check ‘Preserve Favorites Website Data’
  9. Optional: Check the box next to ‘Form data’
  10. Optional: Check the box next to ‘Passwords’
  11. Click the ‘Delete’ button
  12. Close all your Internet Explorer browser windows.
  13. Re-open a new Internet Explorer window and attempt the action you were trying to do before.

Safari Web Browser

  1. Open the Safari Web Browser
  2. Click ‘Safari’ within the menu bar
  3. Click ‘Empty Cache’
  4. Click ‘Empty’
  5. Close and Re-open the Safari Web Browser

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Open Mozilla Firefox
  2. From the Tools menu, Select Clear Recent History
  3. From the Time range to clear: drop-down menu, select Everything

Click the down arrow next to ‘Details’ to choose which elements to clear. Click Clear Now.

Note on optional steps: The steps listed above as optional are to be done at your discretion. These options should be performed only after a resolution is not reached after trying all other steps first. By performing these options, you will remove all saved Form Entry Data and stored Passwords within Internet Explorer, requiring you to enter them manually and to remember them for all Websites you visit.
