AKO Mail Client: MAC Mail Configuration

The following instructions will assist you with setting up your AKO/DKO mail account with Mac Mail.

  • Launch “Mail” application.
  • Click on ‘Mail’ located at the top left of the screen.
  • Click on ‘Preferences…’.
  • Click on ‘Accounts’.
  • Click on the ‘+’ (Plus Sign) located at the bottom left of the page.
  • Select “IMAP” for the account type.
  • Type in “AKO/DKO Webmail” for the account description.
  • Enter your name into the “Full Name” field.
  • Enter your AKO/DKO email address into the “Email Address field.
  • Click on ‘Continue’.
  • For the “Incoming Mail Server” field, enter: imap.us.army.mil
  • Enter your AKO/DKO username for the “User Name” field.
  • Enter your AKO/DKO password for the “Password” field.
  • Click on ‘Continue’.  Mac Mail will attempt to connect to imap.us.army.mil.  It should succeed.
  • For the “Outgoing Mail Server” field, enter mailrouter.us.army.mil
  • Check the box next to “Use Authentication”.
  • Enter your AKO/DKO username for the “User Name” field.
  • Enter your AKO/DKO password for the “Password” field.
  • Click on ‘Continue’.  Mac Mail will attempt to connect to mailrouter.us.army.mil.  It should fail.
  • Once the connection fails, click on ‘Continue’.
  • Check the box next to “Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).
  • Select “Password” for the “Authentication” field.
  • The next screen will display your mail settings.
  • Click on ‘Continue’.
  • Click on ‘Done’.

Mac Mail should auto detect what the correct port numbers are needed to connect to the AKO/DKO webmail.  Once you click on ‘Done’, you should be able to use the AKO/DKO webmail with MAC Mail.  If you need further assistance with configuring MAC mail with your AKO/DKO account, contact your MAC support team.
