Follow the directions below to configure your AKO Webmail to Outlook Express on your local machine.
1. Open Outlook Express
2. Click on ‘Tools’.
3. Click on ‘Accounts…’.
4. Click the ‘Add’ button.
5. Enter your display name. This is the name that will be displayed to users to send mail to.
6. Click on ‘Next’.
7. Then, enter your AKO/DKO email address. The format is: email@example.com.
Note: Usernames may contain a middle initial or full middle name.
8. Click on ‘Next’.
9. Select IMAP within the drop down box.
10. In the field for “Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) server”, enter imap.us.army.mil.
11. In the field for “Outgoing Mail (SMTP) server”, enter mailrouter.us.army.mil .
12. Click on ‘Next’.
Note: Some ISP’s prevent our “mailrouter” from being set here. contact your ISP to get their Outgoing mail settings if “mailrouter”.
13. Enter your AKO/DKO Username and password in the appropriate fields.
14. Ensure that the box that reads “Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)” is unchecked.
15. Click on ‘Next’.
16. Click the ‘Finish’ button to finish adding the account to Outlook Express. Now we must change the ports, and your account will be ready to go.
17. Select the account you just created (it will have the name imap.us.army.mil until you change it).
18. Click on ‘Properties’.
19. Click the ‘Servers’ tab.
20. Check the box next to “My server requires authentication”.
21. Click the ‘Advanced’ tab
22. Check the boxes labeled “This server requires SSL.”
23. Enter 465 for the Outgoing (SMTP) port.
24. Enter 993 for the Incoming (IMAP) port.
25. Click the ‘OK’ button to save your settings.
Setting up your AKO webmail with Outlook Express will allow you to view and use your AKO Webmail from your local machines.
